Between Feelings ist eine multimediale Arbeit, die sich mit dem emotionalen Erleben von ADHS beschäftigt. Ausgehend von der persönlichen Auseinandersetzung mit der eigenen Diagnose, entwickelt das Projekt eine visuelle Struktur, in der individuelle Beobachtungen, Symptome und Zustände in eine künstlerische Form übersetzt werden.
Die Arbeit besteht aus zwei formal und visuell voneinander abgegrenzten Werkgruppen. Die erste bildet eine Serie großformatiger Plakate, die jeweils einem spezifischen ADHS-bezogenen Begriff gewidmet sind. Begriffe wie „Reizüberflutung“, „Hyperfokus“, oder „Time Blindness“ werden durch kurze Texte erläutert und auf eine begriffliche Ebene gehoben. In der Gestaltung jedes Plakates wurde das jeweilige Thema visuell aufgegriffen und in eine abstrahierte, farbintensive Bildsprache übersetzt. Grundlage dieser Motive sind manipulierte Scanografien, deren technische Beschränkungen, etwa Verzerrungen durch Bewegung, Mehrfachbelichtung oder extreme Farbkontraste, gezielt genutzt wurden, um visuelle Formen für die jeweiligen Zustände zu finden.
Die zweite Werkgruppe besteht aus einer Reihe von Schwarzweiß-Selbstporträts, die mit verschiedenen experimentellen Techniken wie Langzeitbelichtungen, Doppelbelichtungen oder Überlagerungen entstanden sind. Die Arbeit bewegt sich formal zwischen fotografischer Dokumentation und subjektiver Bildmanipulation. Die Auswahl der Schwarzweiß-Ästhetik sowie die fragmentierte Darstellung des eigenen Gesichts schaffen einen Kontrast zur grellen Farbigkeit der Plakate. Während die erste Werkgruppe klar strukturiert ist und auf eine benennbare Begriffswelt verweist, bleibt die zweite offener, introspektiver und interpretierbar. Die Kombination beider Ebenen, die analytisch- informierende, begriffliche und die persönlich, emotionale, bildet den Kern der Arbeit. Beide Werkgruppen sind gleichwertig gedacht, nicht als Erklärung oder Ergänzung zueinander, sondern als parallele Zugänge zu einem komplexen inneren Erfahrungsraum.
Die Arbeit entstand im Rahmen der Ausstellung RESTLESS MINDS des index.kollektiv und wurde im Zuge des f² Fotofestivals 2025 im different e.V. in Dortmund präsentiert.
Between Feelings is a multimedia project that explores the emotional experience of ADHD. Based on a personal engagement with the artist’s own diagnosis, the work develops a visual structure in which individual observations, symptoms, and states are translated into artistic form.
The project consists of two distinct groups of works, both formally and visually differentiated. The first is a series of large-format posters, each dedicated to a specific ADHD-related term. Concepts such as “sensory overload,” “hyperfocus,” or “time blindness” are explained through short texts and elevated to a conceptual level. Each poster visually interprets its respective topic, translating it into an abstract, color-intensive visual language. The motifs are based on manipulated scanography, whose technical limitations—such as distortions from movement, multiple exposures, or extreme color contrasts—are deliberately used to find visual forms for the respective mental states.
The second group of works comprises a series of black-and-white self-portraits created using various experimental techniques such as long exposures, double exposures, and overlays. Formally, the work oscillates between photographic documentation and subjective image manipulation. The choice of black-and-white aesthetics and the fragmented depiction of the artist’s face form a stark contrast to the vibrant colors of the posters. While the first group of works is clearly structured and refers to a definable vocabulary, the second remains more open, introspective, and interpretative.
The combination of these two layers—the analytical, informative, conceptual one and the personal, emotional one—forms the core of the work. Both bodies of work are considered equal, not as explanations or supplements to one another, but as parallel approaches to a complex internal world of experience.
The work was created as part of the RESTLESS MINDS exhibition by index.kollektiv and was presented at different e.V. in Dortmund during the f² Photo Festival 2025.
